Membership of the group is open to all agencies, whether statutory or voluntary, which provide services to the Gypsy and Traveller communities and/or are concerned with the welfare of Gypsies and Travellers or their relationship with the non-traveller community of Middlewich. Additionally, representatives of the Gypsy and Traveller communities shall be invited to have membership of the group. The Group shall be involved in all aspects concerning relationships between the travelling community and the non-traveller community of Middlewich, in particular matters which: • increase social inclusion of the Gypsy and Traveller community in Middlewich • balance the rights and responsibilities of Gypsies and Travellers and the non-traveller community of Middlewich. • raise awareness in the settled community of the lawfulness of the Gypsy and Traveller lifestyle and the individuality of different groups visiting Middlewich. • address anti-social or racist behaviour displayed by some Gypsy/Traveller groups which affect the non-traveller community and vice-versa. • engender a greater understanding of the culture of Gypsy/Travellers with a view to alleviating misunderstandings and prejudices.
